Wenger confirms talks ongoing for two star players

Despite speculation about that future of Arsenal star duo, Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez, Arsenal manager, Arsene Wenger has stated that both players may still stay at The Emirates stadium. The players have not received a take-it-or-leave offer by the club hierarchy, meaning that there is still hope that the pair can extend their contracts that expire at the end of the season.

Both men have refused all offers by the Arsenal management to extend their contract as they hold out for offers from other clubs. Reports in the English media suggest that Ozil has been offered a mammoth £300k-a-week offer to stay in north London.

Wenger was responding to speculation about the future of Ozil and Sanchez in his pre-match press conference ahead of Wednesday’s trip to the Olympic stadium by claiming that there is still opportunity for the pair or change their minds.

Ozil has been linked to Manchester United and has impressed in recent months while Sanchez was close to a move to Manchester City and is still being linked to the Blue side of Manchester. Starting from January, both men will be free to sign for foreign clubs from January 1, while Arsenal may be willing to let them go as we wouldn’t want to lose them on a free transfer.

Speaking at the press conference ahead of the match against David Moyes men, Wenger said, “The conversations are, as always, going on with everybody. Our door is always open. I cannot tell you much more,” “I have said many times we want to keep them and, at the moment, that’s all we can say. The best way to deal with these kind of things is to keep it as discreet as possible.” He added.

While Sanchez looked disinterested in the match against Southampton, Ozil has played like a man possessed. Whether it is to play his way for a new contract or impress potential suitors, no one can say but Arsenal will hope both men stay and help our quest to return to competing for the major titles.
