Firstly, SPECTACULAR SHOWING for Aaron Ramsey. The supporters and the squad really did themselves proud yesterday. The banners were brilliant & the Get Well Soon shirts worn by the lads was a really nice touch.
Massive match for Theo. The second half especially. Really got his crosses and possession down well and took a great goal. The speed is coming back nicely and his fresh legs will yield results going forward.
Gotta love Bendtner. The lad does try & he’s probably always going to have clunker matches like this (though hopefully few & far between). He too, like Theo, is really just getting his football legs back & we’ll see him return to quality shortly. If he’d have come back in December and had the full set of matches under him since then, he scores a hat trick today. Nice to see/hear the supporters clap him off for his efforts, even if the results weren’t there.
Cesc. What else needs to be said? 🙂 Killer pass in by Nasri as well on the goal.
Have we ever seen Shava celebrate a goal like that? I think he needed that goal, perhaps more so than Theo. Hopefully a bit of weight’s been lifted now & he can go on a rambunctious tear over the next 9 league matches & the CL tilts. We need him at his mischievous best.
I thought Diaby did admirably to fill in when Cesc went off. Bit worrying about Cesc for Porto. We need him on the pitch.
Gumbyheaded goal allowed, but what else is new?
Overall though, we got the 3 points.
Great 3 points because at this stage that is all we need! Just 3 points!
Bendtner misses ..well .. they were bentdner misses.. what else can you say…
He tries very hard and leaves every ounce of energy in him on the pitch….
Although if this was a Champions league match, we would have absolutely crucified him for those misses! But he does create good chances and when Eduardo came on (ooh boy, it was night and day).. I started missing Bendtner right away..cant chase the ball, can’t hold the ball and cant win a header! So Bendtner YOU ARE NUMBER 1 ARSENAL STRIKER NOW… keep sweating hard into that Arsenal Jersey!
Oh, and a hat tip to Jack Wilshere who scored his first Premiership goal yesterday…match winner for Bolton over the Hammers. Well done, son!
Good 3 points. But I thought we could have won by a margin of 5 or 6 goals. Great showing by Walcott and Cesc.
Although a bit worried about Cesc’s availabilty for Porto’s game.
But what about the Cesc injury! I mean Ramsey and Cesc out. This could seriously damage our fliud flow and attack!
Just how many chances did Nicklas Bendtner miss? I stopped counting at 5. Anyway, I give points for commitment and work rate. Good game all the same.
A good performance but was it just me that was really frustrated and annoyed at the attitude of Bendtner after he wasted some great chances. He laughed as he missed another great opportunity. Then when he was substituted he shrugged his shoulder as if to say “what can I do?”
I know it is not easy to put those chances away but his waste could have cost us valuable points. If he makes a mistake like he did yesterday he should not laugh about it. He should act like a professional and work even harder to make sure he gets the next one, like Walcott.
I sincerely wish we had someone in midfield who could have a discussion with Denilson and talk to him about his positional play. Multiple times yesterday he was aimless in midfield. He was marking space and not covering runners. Once Fabregas went off he was overrun in midfield with Diaby and Nasri playing more advanced roles. Ramsey is a huge loss.
Apart from that I was happy with the performance. Vermaelen was solid at the back and seems to be a real leader at the back. Clichy has become an even better player than he was last year. His naivety has been replaced by a real positive leadership style and I thought he was a real leader for us once Fab went off.
Eboue was solid again and really impressed in the final third. Walcott was good but really needs to maintain his form and consistency. It is great to see his interview afterwards and see what an intelligent and thoughtful footballer he is. Nasri was again our most creative player, beating people at will and creating our first goal. He is finally getting back some consistency and quality. Next to start showing some consistency is Tomas. Magical player…
Good result but we need to be more clinical and more alert against Porto mid week. My team for that game would be:
Here is hoping we can turn the result around and progress to the next round.
Bendtner should be fined for every goal that he missed in this match and from now on… it’ll be for his own good and the only way he’s going to start converting those gilt-edged chances / make him a more clinical player.
Harsh, I know… but think of the return if that happens!
AGAINST PORTO WE CAN’T CONTINUE TO BE THROW AWAY GILTEDGE CHANCES LIKE THAT IN ALL OUR GAMES LIKE THE BURNLEY MATCH. I THINK OUR INABILITY TO KILL OF A GAME IS A BIG PROBLEM FOR THE TEAM WHICH I THINK ARSENE SHOULD WORK ON. BENDTNER SHOULD GO AND POLISH HIS BOOTH WELL BECAUSE AGAINST PORTO, WE CANNOT AFFORD TO THROW AWAY ANY CHANCES BCOS WE NEED TO KILL THE GAME OFF IN THE FIRST HALF BCOS PORTO WILL COME AT US AND PUT PRESSURE ON OUR SHAKY DEFENCE IN THE SECOND HALF OFCOURSE THEY WONT COME AND DEFEND AT THE EMIRATES.THANK GOD SONG,ABOU AND ARSHAVIN IS AVAILABLE. LINE UP TO BE LIKE THIS…………………..ALUMINA MANUEL,VEHERMALEN, SOL, SAGNA, CLICHY, DIABY, SONG, SAMIR, ARSHAVIN, EBOUE, BENDTNER.
Vermaelen,Cesec,Nasri DiabyRosicky for first lineup but without Eboue,Silvestre,Denilson and the player who horribly wasted good chances Bendtner.
With regards to yesterday the good points were the amount of chances created, Walcott showing what he is capable off and the fact we still have big players to return. Bad points well Nicky B’s finishing but I agree you can’t fault his committment and work rate. The difference is compared to previous years we would have drawn or lost that match, we didn’t we won! We still have a slim chance of winning the league and hopefully during the summer Arsene will wake up and buy us a decent goalkeeper.
When is the RVP Return Date ?
late april @ best
I wasn’t suprised by the result, we have by far the most technically gifted team in the prem. The thing that bothers me most is that our strikers need to take the weight of the midfielders, our midfielders have scoring for us lately and it can be a huge burden thinking ‘ i have to score today our forwards probably won’t!”
And the thing that gets me the most furious is people’s hatred for denilson, it’s because of the media driven drivel of absolute rubbish that makes people think denilson is so bad. He’s a good player, there’s a reason why Wenger plays him. So stop critising him, he needs support, how do you think he feels knowing he’s the most hated arsenal player. Is he gonna play better or worse?
Thing before you speak (or write in this case)
Sorry about some of the spelling
BENDTNER IS A DISASTER!!!! I NEVER LIKED HIM, BUT THIS GAME MAKES ME REALIZE THAT HE CANT PLAY AT A TOP FLIGHT CLUB LIKE ARSENAL. HE DOESNT KNOW HOW TO RESOLVE THE EASY BALLS HIS TEAMMATES GIVE TO HIM
profligancy the curse of arsenal fc, i cant decide whats more frustrating the injuries which seem to be never ending or the amount of chances we spurn every game. the main culprit being nicklas bendtner, here,s a bit of advice mr.b..DONT run your mouth off about what your going to do until you,ve achieved something in the game. the 5 chances missed yesterday my gran would have put away with her eyes shut! i keep hearing he was in the right place, been out injured, blah.blah, blah the bottom line is….HE AINT GOOD ENOUGH, at this moment in time,he needs i was going to say 5 chances to score 1 goal but after yesterday he appears to need even more. next season loan him out to a lower prem team where he can hopefully improve on his finishing because aerial ability aint enough to cut it at the highiest level, that aside good to see theo gaining some form, hopefully he can remain injuy free for the remainder of the season, lets try to keep a few clean sheets between now and the end of the season, hope cesc aint out for more than a game or two because we seriously lack a creative influence when the capt is missing, anyway 3pts were taken and now we move on to porto on tuesday and hopefully qualification to the last 8 of the cl. i say hopefully because if the capt aint fit we,ll struggle to break them down and we have to score.
@charlie how can you possibly leave out Eboue with the form he is showing. Sagna will have to be on the bench, Verma in holding position in CMF and gallas in the CH position. Is he available? What about Song? @ATVW, i dont think anyone hates Denny, it just that he is not capable of performing consistantly the job Wenger requires. I dont think he has enough of the required attributes to break things up, get up and down box to box, win ball in the air or hold players off with strength. He can pass the ball quite well and does try to put in a shift and is capable of scoring the odd goal or making the odd tackle. But when one looks at the level of performance from Song Den falls quite short. Its not his fault. I think he should not have to think about defending just show his offensive qualities. Unfortunately the team already has enough of those. Good to see Theo showing the right signs. Bendty…….what can i say.
Lets all be honest Bendtner played like NOOB. No doubt he is a good player but men he knows how to miss in a big way. Key points though its good to see he can put himself in good situations to score. Though his inability to score consistantly will be hes downfall.
I am happy to see man u and chelski struggling. the good thing is that we are not underpressure. The pressure is on man u and chelski not to lose
On a side note, you got to love EBOUE that man loves football. It good to see a player who enjoys playing football and a big smile to boot. Also NASRI has silky smooth dribbling no1 can take the ball of hes feet wants he is in full flight.
@ICe hammer – Howz the hangover our boy Jack “the Mass” Wilshere buried the hamers
Negative – NO CLEAN SHEET
I loved Bendtner’s work yesterday. Yes, he missed sitters, but so did Eduardo and Arshavin. He is still very young. We know he can finish. He has scored some great goals, both for Arsenal and for Denmark. His consistency will only get better as he plays more. What I love is the positions he gets himself into. He is the only player we have that can make good wing play worthwhile. Arsenal’s crossing is horrendous most of the time, but even when a good one gets whipped in, there is nobody in position to win the ball. Bendtner’s work made Walcott’s and Eboue’s wide play come to fruition (albeit without the final result). His effort was fantastic all game. Assuming he starts, I think he has to be an odds-on favorite to score on Tuesday.
After Bendtner’s pythonesque performance, I have to say he’s not the messiha, he’s just a very naughty boy!
Despite Bendtner’s atrocious finishing, our attack is still much, much better with him playing. Bendtner is good at bringing the ball down, at creating space, at getting teammates involved. Perhaps next year RVP will return and Chamakh will come in and provide competition. But for now he is definitely our best option. If he starts scoring, that will be a bonus.
What bout song he will be playin against Porto right??
Yep, will be playing for sure.
I’m at a loss why we signed Bentdner for 5 years? The lad can’t hit a barn door from 3 paces and that’ NOT joking. Come on Arsenal fans, just close your eyes for a minute and imagine we had a world class striker/goal poacher like Van Nistleroy. That game would have been 10-0 and we would be looking good to win the title without breaking a sweat. Now open your eyes. Welcome to the real world of Bentdner. Didn’t Wenger buy Henry? Yes he did. And so he must be able to spot talent. What would have happened if the result had ended up 2-2? COME ON WENGER, BUY A BLOODY CLASS STRIKER BEFORE FABREGAS LEAVES!!!!!!!!!
We could have won the match by at least 6 goals for sure, had it not been for Bendter’s misses. But the lad really tried hard through out the match. He too me is a much improved player now…in the days ahead he could be a good asset to our team.
It was nice to see Theo coming back to form, but his final ball still remains a problem area…He should aim to take on the final defender more often like Robben, Ronaldo.
Denilson started the season very well. But he seem to have lost that touch after coming back from his injury. He soon needs to find his touch back to add that extra steel in the defensive third.
I was extremely satisfied with Nasri’s performance. He was excellent vs. Burnley. His final pass to Cesc reminded me of Zidane. But again he needs to pull off such performances against teh big teams of Europe.
Can we have forum where we can share our wishlist of players with Arsene for the coming season?
I have some names in mind.
Forwards : Di Maria, Robben and Dzeko/Grafite
Halfline : Phillipe Mello
Defense: Lucio, Lahm
Goalie : Craig Gordon, Shay Given, Joe Hart
Related to Ramsey’s injury:
I am infuriated by the manner in which our players are getting injured by some irresponsible, horrific challenges made by our opponents.
If this carries on like this, I think we need to field the All Blacks rugby team (or 11 convicts of Colorado jail) against teams like Stoke, Birmingham, Bolton and Sunderland :):)
@iloveverminator.
Bendtner is much improved??? Is that your guide dog I can hear barking?
If there was a poll to find the WORST striker in the Prem, it would be Bendtner without a doubt. My mate is a Brighton fan and when he emailed me today he said he wouldn’t have Bendtner in a pink fit and they’re bottom of the first division.
Wake up!
I only have several players in my wishlist
Def – Chielini
Mid – Yaya,Melo
FW- Villa , Dzeko
@ dave m
What’s your take on Bendy’s performance against Porto yesterday…Believe me we need triers like him who is willing to give 100% on the pitch. last season he was low on confidence and was not contributing much to the team’s cause…but the lad seem to be working hard on training sessions and his confidence is growing with each passing day (credit goes to Arsene Wenger for handing him a 5 years contract).
Trust me he is going to deliver for us soon.:)
