Unai Emery eyes Winger as fourth signing, £26m sees deal done

Arsenal are interested in signing 22-year-old Argentine winger, Christian Pavon from Boca Juniors, Daily Star suggest.

The classy winger has attracted interest from a number of top European clubs based on his performances in the Argentine league.

He was part of the Albiceleste squad for the World Cup, and impressed on the occasions he was thrust into action despite the team as a whole struggling to impress.

Emery has made defensive reinforcements to the Arsenal squad, but Pavon is seen as the ready-made replacement for Alexis Sanchez. The Chilean left Arsenal in January to join Manchester United but has not been replaced.

Pavon is seen as a similar type of player to the Chilean, if perhaps more likely to take on a right-back and hug the touchline, which will be especially important, given that left-back Nacho Monreal is not the quickest.

He is being touted for a £26m move to the Premier League. That is his release clause at Boca, with Argentine tabloid, AS reporting that Arsenal will step up their interest in the speedy winger.

Arsenal had been linked to Portuguese winger, Gelson Martins but the complications in sealing a deal means Arsenal have shifted their interest to Pavon.

At the moment, Arsenal don’t boast a direct winger that can dribble, stretch the defence and whip in quality crosses. The likes of Henrikh Mkhitaryan, Mesut Ozil, Alex Iwobi and Danny Welbeck are not natural wingers and are inclined to cut in and look for a short pass instead of playing in a direct way.

Pavon is a winger that can play on the right or left of the frontline, and is known for his dribbling, pace and creativity.

He has scored 17 times in 65 league matches for Boca since joining the club in 2014; he would certainly improve our squad.
