New Arsenal player, Konstantinos Mavropanos  has stated his happiness at signing for The Gunners. The 13-time English giants have identified the 20 year old central defender as a long-term addition to the team despite his relative inexperience. He was unveiled by the club yesterday and was spotted at London Colney, Arsenal’s training ground with manager, Arsene Wenger.

The player thus becomes the first arrival at the club during this January transfer window and despite making 16 appearances in the Greek Super League for Olympiakos, Arsenal have seen sufficient quality to shell out £2m for his services.

With club captain, Per Mertesacker retiring at the end of the season and the future of German defender, Shkodran Mustafi still up for debate following his angling for a summer move, there is a chance that the youngster was signed as cover. The player was obviously delighted at the chance to join Arsenal, a sentiment shared when he spoke following the transfer.

The 20-year-old is widely regarded as one of the best talents to come out of Greece in recent years, and it seems a coup for Arsenal to sign him. Arsenal uploaded a picture on their social media platforms of the youngster and manager Arsene Wenger.

Via Goal, he said that, “In this moment I cannot describe exactly how I feel,’  ‘From my heart I would like to thank the Arsenal officials for the great honour they’ve shown [to me] because they’ve put me in the family of a huge club with millions of fans all over the world. ‘I am very touched.

I will give all my strength with my performances to repay this honour and trust in order to make the club and its supporters happy.’ he added.

With the likes of Callum Chambers and Rob Holding still at the club, it is expected that the player would go out on loan to help his development instead of stalling on the bench at The Emirates. He is definitely one to watch out for.
