Defender agrees deal with Arsenal – not Sokratis

Arsenal youngster, Dominic Thompson has signed his first professional contract with the club.
The defender, who is regarded as one of the best in the Gunners academy showed signs of marked improvement last season and has now been rewarded for his displays with a first contract.
The left-back, who turns 18 next month was an undisputed player for the U18s in 2017-18 and even captained the team on a number of occasions.
Thompson featured in the run to the FA Youth Cup Final and was named on the bench in the Premier League International Cup Final against Porto. Big things are expected of the fleet-footed player, who has been likened to former Gunner, Ashley Cole for his all-round play.
Next season, he will make the step up to the U23s as he will not be eligible to turn out for the U18s. He might also get to feature in the Checkatrade Trophy, with new manager, Unai Emery monitoring his development and who knows? A Europa League appearance might not be too far away.
He has earned admiration for his energy, dynamism, quality and composure in possession, defensive awareness and commitment; all the attributes one would want from a full-back. He joins Daniel Bullard in signing professional terms with Arsenal, while it is yet unclear whether the pair of Robbie Burton and Tobi Omole have accepted the contracts offered to them.
The 17-year-old will hope to be another member of the Arsenal academy to make the grade at The Emirates, following in the footsteps of Hector Bellerin and Alex Iwobi, players who have the made the step up in recent years and are now members of the first team.
