As much as I love blogging about Arsenal I have to admit that there are some times when I just want to do it. Friday afternoon after a long, exhausting week at work is one of those times.
I’m minutes away from enjoying a tasty beer and with Arsenal news at a premium today – aside from some stock-standard comments from the manager about maybe signing someone – I thought I’d do something different (and non-intensive) today.
Listed below are a number of topics relating to recent Arsenal news stories – listed like flash cards, if you will. All I want you to do is give me your thoughts on one or more of those words in an attempt to get a decent bit of reader-driven conversation on the comments.
It’s selfish and lazy, I know, but I’m utterly knackered and I could really use a night off. Here goes…
- Patrick Vieira
- Kolo Toure
- Thomas Vermaelen gets #5
- Philippe Senderos
- 4-3-3 or 4-4-2?
- Nicklas Bendtner
- Possible transfer targets
Before I go today I just want to give a plug to another Arsenal blogger, Jammathon, who is releasing a new online Arsenal magazine called ‘Portal’ on his blog Third Gen later today. It will be the first flash-based Arsenal magazine and from what I’ve seen looks quite sharp. Additionally, I am appearing in a podcast interview with Jammathon (who is another Arsenal supporter from Brisbane, Australia) and that interview will be available in full when ‘Portal’ is released at around 3pm UK-Time.
I’ll update this post with an accurate link to the online mag but in the meantime you can check out his blog here.
Right then, enjoy your weekend. I’ll be back tomorrow with some Emirates Cup stuff.
Have your say on all things Arsenal by leaving a comment.
SLACKER!!
🙂
I don’t think Vieira will sign for us. I think if he leaves Inter, it will be for guarenteed first-team football in an effort to get back into the playing XI of the france national team that he is still the captain of.
I think we may sign the defensive midfielder Blase Matuidi. Here are reasons for this belief:
– 22 years of age, so young enough for Wengers vision.
– He is french and we all are aware of Wengers propensity to sign French players.
– He is very experienced for one so young as the other Arsenal youngsters are. He has had atleast 2 seasons of solid first-team football for Saint Etienne and has played many games for the French u-19 and u-21 team.
– There is documented evidence of Arsenals interest in him unlike some other links. The manager of Saint Etienne (Matuidi’s team) has said on record that Wenger rang him up last August and said that Arsenal were interested in signing him and whether or not he was for sale and when the St. Ettiene manager said no, Wenger did not make an offer.
-Recent comments by Arsenal staff. I believe the Arsenal head-scout (who has allegedly been tracking Matuidi) said that prior to the sale of Toure that they had a full squad but if they sold a player they may look at buying another. Wenger also said that he may need to look at playing a central defender presumably Toure and perhaps Senderos in midfield because they had so many defenders and less midfielders. Now that Toure has gone and Senderos is possibly leaving too, then he may need to buy a midfielder to give himself some more options and backup.
– Matuidi would seemingly be what we are looking for in a midfielder right now. Said to be Quick, Intelligent, a good passer and having a playing style based upon staying in certain positions and shutting down the options rather than running all over the place ala Flamini.
I have talked to a few people who have seen Matuidi playing for Saint Etienne and they have nothing at all bad to say and they say that he was a definite stand-out performer for the team.
In his interviews also he seems normal and a ‘team player’ unlike the last French midfielder signed from a french team, Flamini, who followed the money. Matuidi has basically said in his interviews so far that he is honoured to be linked to Arsenal and would love to play for us, but if he doesn’t end up moving, that is also fine and he has no problems staying with Saint Etienne longer. Somehow I can’t imagine somebody like Lassana Diarra a few years ago saying something like this.
Well Toure was often the weak link in defence last season, and getting 16 million for a player on the decline is fantastic business. Wenger has bought a replacement in Vermaelen, a player who is a bit like Keown or Campbell, in that he’s good in the air and not afraid to get stuck in.
Greedybayor is a dick, plain and simple. Getting him out of the club is the best thing for the moral of the squad and our bank account.
Eboue… he’s a good squad player, much more reliable than having one of the kids step-up for RB or RM. So I’d be sad to see him go, especially if we get less than 10 million for him.
If Eboue goes Wenger will probably bring in a RB to add some competition and cover for that position. And I’d love to see a DM of some description come in. Someone like Vidal of Leverkusen or Yussuf of Kiev.
With the formation, 4-3-3 looked good in the first half against Hannover. Very stable and very interchangeable, so I think Wenger will us it when we play against sides who like to counter-attack as it provides that extra cover in the middle.
Oh I hear ya SF, I’ve got the remaints of a bottle of Johnny Walker to attack well earned if said myself.
Whoa oh oh Vieira
To Italy and back
Or fiction from the hacks?
Vieira, whoa oh oh…
King Kolo abdicates his throne whilst the jury is out as to whether or not too much TV is bad for you.
OK, I’ll leave before the puns turn into something generic like “return to Senderos” arrrgh! I did it again!
Morning from across the pond:
Vieira – Alot of people ar esaying he doesn’t have the legs for the PL anymore, saying he spends more time on the injury bench than the field. Well, given the chance to sign him for 700k on a pay as you play deal, Id snatch their hands off. YES, he’s not the same player, but he’s Paddy. The dressing room influence alone will be worth it. If we can sign an ageing frenchman in Silvestre, then signing Paddy should be a no brainer.
Kolo – Wish him well. Bottom line is he was unhappy for a while, he hasn’t been the same player sine the ACON and 14mil is too good for a player in his final year of his contract.
Thomas #5 – Surprising. An intent of AW wants from him maybe? Pre-season he looks solid enough, though I’ll reserve judgement for Arsenal v Chelsea when he’s up against Dogbreath and Le Sulk.
Senderos – Im a fan. Its human nature to remember bad points over good ones, mistakes over triumph. I dont see exactly how Milan benefited him, I think it was a trial gone wrong. He has the ability, whether or not he transforms tha ability into confidence is yet to be seen. Imperetive we keep hold of him, for cover if nothing else.
443 or 442 – Im no tactician, but this is obvious. Such is the attacking flair in our side at the minute that a 433 seems the only logical way forward, though we’ve only ever seen Chelsea deploy this successfully and thats with Essien, Lampard and Makelele behind the front 3. Id be worried lining up with 3 up top against the Mancs. Save the attacking flair for the likes of Hull and Stoke and pull out a more sensible 442 for the bigger boys
Bendtner – Big fan. Hands up! I was one of the fans cringing whenever he touched the ball. His link up play with RVP and Eduardo pre season has been very impressive. He has confidence now, something which will benefit him greatly this term.
Transfer Targets – Ha ha ha! Are you kidding me son? If the english papers are to be believed we’re linked with the entire football league. This is Wengers ship and only he will steer it towards players he wants.
Happy weekend boys.
Seany Boy
Is remaints a word? No it’s not, I just invented it. I’m good at that.
I think you should all shut up. We are in serious trouble, we have lost our most reliable striker adebayor, toure who has been a very consistent and one of our better CBs for years. And the only person we have bought is Vermalen?? Please who is this kid, looks like another fight for 4th place, if we are ever going to challenge for the title again we need some big names
@Seany Boy – I think the Milan experience will be good for big Phil if only for a “the grass is not always greener” effect. But I’m not one of the ones who has given up on big Phil, some people have very short memories when it comes to Champion’s League runs of clean sheets and the Swiss beanpole who was alongside Kolo at the heart of it. Teams don’t just fluke that as you obviously know. Good post.
@ Kisja
Shut up? What because someone has a different view from you?????
Ade may of been the most productive striker we’ve had since TH14, but what good is it when the player has no interest in teh good of the club????
I think you need to shut it fella. Ousting Ade is for teh good of the club. SOME fans relaise that trying to maintain and still build infact, a team capable of CL football year in year out whilst having the burden of a new stadium in this economic climate is no easy feat.
What makes you so sure buying the world and his son will win us anything??
Toure for 14 mil is great business for a player who WANTED to leave since January and who has 1 yr left on his contract. 25mil for a lazy backstabbing greedy cunt is even better.
Your either an arsenal player or your’re not. Ade has never been an “arsenal” esque player.
the thing that pissed me about ade is henry played for years for the team, the supporters and lastly himself and it took him 6 years to get the money greedybayour wanted just for being the striker he replaced and you can’t say he isn’t greedy as the bastard nearly made all the togo players strike over pay demands during the wc. I don’t think togo has the financial musscle like England and spain to pay their nationals and Kanu was an awesome example the 1st major pay check he got for himself went to setting up a football acadamy in his home town but ade prob couldn’t give a shit about anyone but himself.
Kolo leaving was right cos his is falling out of d pecking order with d arrival of vermaleen which is a good replacement for toure and senderous also as backup , rumour of viera coming back if true is a nice one and it will be a gr8 opportunity for d young lad to ave him with them . Bendthner is a star who has improved and is going to be a nice back up for rvp and dudu . Aw should go for miguel veloso is a long time target 4 arsenal , he can patner cesc or he should go for mohammodu diara , also d latest rumour of wenger ready to table a bid for chamakh if it happens will be gr8
Patrick = Arsenal legend, but I agree that he may be past PL pace. However, he would be an asset to younger players/dressing room and be a formiddable sub. Kolo – I wish him well. He always gave as much as he could, even after ACN illness took its toll – don’t worry Kolo, no special restaurant desert for you! Vermaelen – I think he already looks class. Ajax still preach total football and even if he is young, they would never have had him as captain if he was a slacker. Senderos – I feel sorry for this guy. I can remember watching him play for the Swiss and scoring a thumping header in a commanding display before he was injured. I believed then as I do now that the boy can be good. Don’t judge him as a kid against bully boy Drog – and don’t forget that once the mighty Tony Adams was totally outclassed by Van Basten but went on to be the greatest CB ever! Bendtner – a bit like Marmite, but again another who I think could be good. He scored a decent amount of goals last season (some crucial) and has got that rare commodity required to be great, ATTITUDE. New transfers – could go on forever, but I would be happy with Pat, Matuidi & either De Rossi or Huntelaar!! And finally tactics/formation – christ! Leave that to AW, after all ‘he knows’.
patrick vieira; has earned the right to come back to this club at any capacity and all fans, bar those with amnesia, should welcome him back with open arms, after all we did sign an ex-manu utterly useless mr potato head look-a-like for the same fee last year
kolo; good luck u always gave ur best ur leadership and influence will be missed
vermaelen #5; lets just wait and see but am hopeful he can settle quickly to PL and be a top player and on field leader
senderos: need to keep the guy now as wer short on cover if sagna and gallas/vermaelen wer both inj at any1 time wer screwed and i dont think an offer at this time wud represent value for a guy whos still progressing
we should play 4-3-1-2 the 3 being song, cesc, rosicky then arsha and RvP wit edu or nic up top
bendtner; big season ahead the guy has turned a corner and is expressing himself without fear now and when all fans finally get behind this guy we will see a top player in time…also good to see him rebuff ac milans reported 10mil offer out of hand immediately saying hes going nowhere…shows loyalty but more importantly focus for the teams cause
transfer targets; haangeland is now out of the equation as he played in uefa cup qualifier and is now cup tied so that move wud be stupid, matuidi’s another unknown developing risk, reports today linking us with a 30m bid for de rossi to me seem fantasy as wenger will not spend dat on any 1 player although i wil refer to a fellow gunners comments made tue bout us securing both villa and de rossi on aug 2. he claimed hed seen it on another blog and dat his source said agreements had been reached already and that it was bound to secrecy until next week. i laughed my ass off when i read it but there was nothing bout us going for de rossi before that and now its in the Independent today, which is a more relible reporting source than the sun or star lets just say….id do a sex wee in my pants if we got those two it would really be a statement of intent from AW and i would gladly retract my comments of late
@ White Ox – Thanks for the puns and the song. Cheered me up no end.
‘Viera whoa, Viera Woah!
He went in t’ Milan
And then came back again..’.
Of course bringing him back is not the answer to anything and I just can’t see AW doing it – as I was saying the other day he’s not sentimental – and probably a good thing too. We’ve got a pretty tough start to the season – Everton, Pompey, manure and man shitty with Champs league play-offs sandwiched in-between. This should give us a pretty good idea exactly how dodgy our defense is after a month and we can start down scaling our expectations – or up!!!
vermaelen getting number 5??? NO
he is quality, but not starting line quality
sign hangeland or better jet, an english center back (we need english people) like lescott (we have the money), jagielka, shawcross, s.taylor or upson.
the number 5 should be for a first XI player. maybe even give it to an DM. m.diarra, vieira, de rossi… noone else, no matuidi or cabaye, they’re just not expirienced enought for the champions league. a striker should be signed, but if, then only huntelaar. i would consider players like trezeguet, s.agüero, henry, julio cruz, v. nistelrooy (but won’t happen).
i will present a good arsenal squad who can win everything next season if it is lined like this:
4 4 2
almunia
sagna hangeland gallas clichy
vieira/de rossi/m.diarra
walcott fabregas arshavin
v.persie huntelaae
cesc will have more space for creativity, wenger will bring the best of klaas and he will score like in ajax. the DM optiones are all expirienced, played in the highest level, and none of them is a jerk 😀 (if we remember adebayor, hleb, flamini).
4 3 3
almunia
sagna hangeland gallas clichy
vieira/de rossi/m.diarra
fabregas nasri
walcott arshavin
v.persie
in the 4 3 3 line up a striker will NOT be bought. just a DM and CB.
I wonder if the dude (ArsenalKenya or GunnerKenya—can’t really remember) was telling the truth. he claimed in this blog (comments section) that he knew for a fact that De Rossi & David Villa are going to sign for us and that was two-three days ago before the newspapers started speculating. If he is right then I can foolishly predict this year the prem is ours to lose, call it blind faithor fanatical support but i tell you – i have never been more hopeful than this year. let the good times/games begin
Can’t wait for the Emirates Cup! I’m like a kid at Christmas. It’s a seven hour drive but the seats are right behind the dug-out and that will keep me pushing forward.
Okay, i’ll respond to one ‘flash-card’. Bendtner. Rather then supply some firm points about the big Dane, I’m going to confuse things further by stating some questions that his name causes me to ponder.
Why does he get a chance before Vela when the Mexican looks the better player to me? Is it just because he is tall?
Why is he played on the right so often?
He will surely be given a huge role this season, with more starts than ever before as our main centre forward. Is he really as good as Eduardo? Is he as good as past strikers; Henry, Wright, Wiltord, Kanu, Ade, etc?
Am I right to be so concerned, or am I just part of the percentile who hasn’t yet been won over by Nik?
By the way, I don’t dislike him and, on the contrary, see a role for him when we need a set piece breakthrough against tough defences. However, I am nervous with the first game so close and unconvinced that he deserves to be ahead of Vela or challenging Eduardo in the pecking order.
I think the spending is about to begin folks…I am starting to get really excited about the new season and would be even more so if a few more players were brought in to the squad.
If the De Rossi rumor is true, then I think his addition would only see us buy one more player as squad depth and hopefully at the back…a versatile player who can play CB or RB if needed.
If we get Matuidi, then I think Viera may be brought in as well as a mentor for our young midfield. A striker such as Chamakh and another defender as squad depth would be brought in as well.
Personally, I would love to see De Rossi brought in and a defender for depth, but if Villa was involved as KenyanGunner suggested the other day, then I would not be opposed.
I think 4-3-3 is the way to go with the squad we have. Our attacking option are plentiful. We need at the least another CM who is more of a holding MF rather than a creative one, but depth at all in the middle is key.
Again, I can’t wait for August 15th! I will settle for the Emirates Cup this weekend though…Gooners UP!!!
guess of the day: we’ll still sell 2 players at least (Eboue, Senderos, maybe Diaby, maybe Traore, maybe Silvestre, maybe even gallas).
we’ll but 2 other players. Matuidi maybe. Not Huntelaar, not De Rossi, not Vieira.
we will do 4-3-3. with the current squad
almunia, sagna-gallas-vermaelen-clichy, song-fabregas-rosicky(nasri), arshavin-robin-bendtner(or walcott or nasri).
RIP ol bobby robson. It really gets me how we all can be so fickle sometimes as all this money in football transfers and buyouts by sugar daddies and still all the rich fuckers can’t put 10 mill in each and then we could find a cure for the big C.
nice sentiment butterfingers
where is every1 today????
Vieira – I want him back as a mentor not as a solution to our Dm problem. We are apparently after Daniele De Rossi from Roma, good DM!!!! Would be happy to see him sign. Then a CB. Then I would be a very happy Gooner. I am thinking a 4-3-3. Fab-DM-Nasri in Mid and Arsha-Dudu-RvP in Att but i am also happy with 4-4-2.
My qeustion is will Arsenal pull through this year? Will it finish in top 4,please help me.
phillemon, at this moment in time i have my doubts. Sadly i dont see the squad any stronger than they were last season. I was expecting the signing for the CB position to be comfortably over 6f tall. Someone who could make mincemeat out of the high balls played into the box, especially from set plays. Vermaelen is only 5’11. I was expecting a powerful and athletic DM to take weight of the back four and creative players in MF and the iceing on the cake would have been another senior striker with power and pase. If this happends then you WILL challenge for the top two positions. I hope is confident in what he is doing.
Actually Vermaelen is solid in the air. He has that Keown, no fear, jump at anything attitude.
Lol at all the doom mongerers. Stop reading Goal.com. We are fine.
Villa would be an incredibl signing and it seems like we have the means and a lack of competition now that Barca and Real have made their moves. I’m praying that is what happens. Then throw in a solid DMF and we should be set. De Rossi would be great but I cant see him leaving Roma unless its for a great sum of money. DAVID VILLA PLEASE!
the deluded and dreamers are callin the realists doom mongerers…were you making these ‘this is our year’ statements the last 3 seasons??
has diabys touch, vision and aggression improved?has theos final ball and defending progressed?has gallas’s temperment and team spirit been resolved?has bendtners finishing improved to a standard that can help us compete with the other 3?can we keep edu,ros and RvP fit for a WHOLE season?has deni and song improved enough to actually compete physically this year? there are more questions that need anserwing than there are cause for confidence im afraid, and now we hav lost 2 of our strongest players and we do not have 1 player on our books who knows wot it takes to win a league
what are u all basing these ridiculous comments bout us competing this year on??itl be a scrap for us to get 4th
shambo you talk alot of sense i agree with you totally we appear to be in a minority i also feel the club is going backwards and using the cost of repayments on the stadium as an excuse not to spend money to strength the squad when its obvious we need to spend to compete and there are players out there we could buy ie veloso,m diarra, even welcome scott parker,s no nonsense approach because we really lack a physical presence in the midfield.
georgey boy wer on the same page brother i hav said on this site manys the time that scott parker is the ideal player for us cos he can do it all…he and kenwyn jones were the two players i said id like at great value…also i dont think were the minority i just think theres alot that share our opinion that just keep it quiet cos theyl be labeled as ‘doom mongers’ and not true fans cos wer not over excitable with a touch of amnesia
Word is that Wenger is close too sealing moves for marouanne chamakh, and blaise matuidi (20 mil combined) and viera for 750k
would love to see huntelaar!
on a completely different note: spanish are you following the ashes?
England are playing bloody well!
@ shambo “we do not have 1 player on our books who knows wot it takes to win a league” We have a manager that knows how to win a league and that is what makes the team. Look at all the players arsne has bought in and we won the league Pires, Henry, Viera, Cambell and so on have any of those players and any other been BIG name players we bought no. So with the likes of sharva, verma and maybe chakma we could be a threat and don’t forget all the other top 3 have also been weakened this year no ronaldo, tevez, arbolo, alonso, and mostly no hiddink at chelscum. Don’t forget we have a wc winner at the heart of our defense and also a uero champ in the midfield and kept our no.1 striker rvp for another couple of years unless they have bought a brain for ol sparky I really don’t think citeh are a threat. The real threat is from Everton with a solid well organise team and a good manager in moyles. But the threat is for the other 3 teams below us as we start the year on top and we will finish it on top.
Yes nurse I’m coming for my meds now just talking to my friends on the magic telly……….hahahaha.
https://twitter.com/db10Datruth jus so u know my new twitter guys
Darren Bent sends love peece bros
I’M STARTING TO GET SICK!!!!!!!!!!!!
I’M STARTING TO THINK THIS “YOUNG TALENT” TEAM IS JUST A LOAD OF CRAP.
SONG, DENILSON, DIABY, BENDTNER, VELA… WTF DID THEY DO???
DENILSON PROVED HIMSELF A BIT, BUT NOT FOR THE FIRST XI.
THE GUYS WHO DID IT ARE WALCOTT, CLICHY AND FABREGAS
WE FUCKING LOST 4 YEARS OF TROPHY’S BECAUSE WE’RE “BUILDING” SOMETHING FOR THE FUTURE.
FAB, THEO AND GAEL ARE JUST 3 PLAYERS FROM A WHOLE YOUNG TEAM. THESE 3 ARE THE ONLYONES WHO HAVE PROVEN THEMSELFS FROM THERE GUNNERS YOUNGSTERS TIMES.
WE SIGNED ARSHAVIN (27) AND HE DID A REVOLUTION. HE BROUGHT US THE CHAMPIONS LEAGUE THIS SEASON.
A WILL COUNT NOW A FEW YOUNGSTERS WHO CAME OUT BIG IN OTHER TEAMS:
BARCELONA: XAVI, MESSI, INIESTA, PUYOL
MAN UTD: GIGGS, SCHOLES, NEVILLE
LIVERPOOL: GERRARD, CARRAGHER
BAYERN: SCHWEINSTEIGER, LAHM
REAL: RAUL, CASILLAS, GUTI
NOT MANY FROM THE ACADEMY IN EACH TEAM ARE THEY???
SO…..KEEP A FEW YOUNGSTERS JUST TO YOUNG UP THE SQUAD.
SALE: DIABY, SENDEROS, BENDTNER, MERIDA
BUY: VIEIRA, HUNTELAAR, HANGELAND/MARQUEZ/MARCHENA/JAGIELKA/UPSON…
YOUGHT DOESN’T BRING TROPHYES…WE FELT THAT FOR 4 YEARS.
WENGER IS GREAT AND I HAVE MY DEEPEST RESPECT FOR HIM… BUT BERGKAMP, HENRY, PIRES AND VIEIRA BROUGHT TROPHYES
BENDTNER, FABREGAS, V.PERSIE, WALCOTT DIDN’T
THEY ARE ALL QUALITY PLAYERS, BUT THE WHOLE YOUNG TEAM TOGETHER JUST CAN’T PLAY BIG GAMES.
LIKE AGAINTST MAN UTD IN THE CL, OR CHELSEA IN FA
I HOPE WE WILL BRING SOMEONES 25 AT LEAST
COME ON ARSENAL
@ butterfingers
can appreciate dat mate but its not possible to keep churning out these ‘unknowns’ and unproven players and there have been flops aswel, reyes, jeffers, stepanovs, etc when u said AW brought in the above players and won a league we already had bould, keown, dixon, seaman,ADAMS,parlour, wright, merson all seasoned home players who knew wot it took who thought these new players and set a standard.
you are right we still have a manager who knows how to win but all he can do is motivate and select 11 players to go out and do a job…thats not enough im afraid, things happen on a pitch and circumstances change every minute and hes not out there to hold the hands of song, diaby, deni, walcott and eboue when their makin the same rookie mistakes they did in last weeks game…am i talkin nonsense???NO all you have to is look at the boss the last 3 years shaking his head and gesturing frustratedly, hands wrapped around himself rocking to and fro while turning to pat rice who also looks bemused and bewildered…ask yourself honestly how many times u hav seen that in recent years…i havent seen a manager so stressed and frustrated in the PL other than our own and that includes relegation thratened managers
face it we dont hav it right now and matuidi and chamakh are not the answer……and most certainly not the answer for a combined 20mil.could we not buy 1 excellent player fo 2omil instead of 2 risks who may take a season+ to settle
whens the last time you were blown away by a signing and excited???and no1 tell me u knew arsha was goin to be the legend he is now….bergkamp and wenger didnt even sign him
rocknrolljesus1, you have made some very good points but the thing that fustrates me about Wenger and what i beleive is why the team fails, is that he buys to many of the same type of player. I watched the 4-4 against Liverpool yesterday which demonstrated to me how physically weak the Arsenal MF are at defending. Fabregas, Nasri and Denilson were good going fwd but poor at defending and very rearly ran tracked back when play broke down. Song was the only one who finished with a little credit in that department. The defence made to many mistakes that day because the midfield could’t help them protect Lukasz Fabianski. Almost every time the back cleared the ball it seemed to come straight back which made the back 4 panic and knock it long. I saw Fabregas get injured earlier in the season making tackles he is not built to make. He is very brave and trys to lead but is not powerful enough. Why does Wenger not see this. He needs to promote that type of player through the transfer market. Every top team in the prem has those type of players. That is all Arsenal needs to win the prem or some cups.
Shambo, what type of players are matuidi and chamakh. Do they add lots of power and physical strength to the team. Or are they in the same mold.
icehammer,
matuidi is tall and can get around a pitch but he lacks power in my opinion and can be compared to diaby in many ways…from wot iv seen of chamakh he is not the clinical or prolific striker we need but he does seem to be more direct than the usual wenger attacker, personally mate i dont want either, i dont have the patience anymore to wait and see if these guys can cut it, iv been patient enough going along with this ‘trust arsene’ and youth policy approach.have a pain in my face tryin to explain to people that we are short in some vital areas and need established names
Butterfingers, your contribution makes me hope against hope against hope against hope. Even then, I still feel the CD positions are not strong enough. I have just heard on talk sport, from Wenger, that he was talking to Vieira about joining the old guard. But they are no where near agreeing on a contract. Talks are resuming.
Question to all gooners….. if Arsenal have another fruitless season is anyone out there prepared to loose Wenger, maybe put him upstairs. How about promoting Pat Rice to the hot seat. Im just thinking ahead….and know it wont happen.
It won’t happen as he makes money and that is the sad reality of things. wenger will get promoted to the board in a dein type way. The next manager will be wengers picking but somehow can’t see rice getting it. Maybe bould will step up along with his team and do a transition thing (bit far fetched I know)
@ shambo it might be possible to churn out a few home bred players like gibbs, wilshere and randall. Arsne did say at the end of the season that he wanted players in before pre season and now hes saying he wants to wait till during pre season to asses the squad has be baffled though mate.
IF ARSENAL WILL LOOK LIKE THIS NEXT SEAOSN, THEN WE CAN WIN ANYTHING…REALLY!!!!!!!
ALMUNIA
SAGNA HANGELAND GALLAS CLICHY
NASRI FABREGAS VIEIRA ROSICKY
ARSHAVIN
V.PERSIE
FABIANSKI
VERMAELEN
SONG
DENILSON
WALCOTT
BENDTNER
EDUARDO
DIABY CAN BE LOANED OUT…OR DENILSON…MAYBE IT WOULD BE BETTER IF DENILSON CAUSE PAT IS 33 AND WON’T PLAY EVERY GAME. DIABY IS A BETTER COVER FOR PAT THEN DENILSON
MERIDA, LANSBURY, WILSHERE, BARAZITE, VELA, SIMPSON… A FEW OF THESE WILL BE LOANED
RANDALL MAY BE SOALED
ONE OF SILVESTRE OR SENDEROS WILL GO… HOPE SENDEROS
EBOUE WILL LEAVE
AGAIN…
IN: HANGELAND, VIEIRA, HAZARD/ZEZINHO/DENTINHO
OUT: SENDEROS/SILVESTRE, RANDALL, EBOUE
LOAN: MERIDA, SIMPSON, WILSHERE, BARAZITE/LANSBURY, HAZARD
IF IT IS LIKE THIS THEN WE WILL WIN
FAB HAS THE CENTER MIDFIELD FOR HIM SELF AND WILL BE A LOT MORE CREATIVE… HARD TO BEALIVE THAT HE CAN BE EVEN MORE CREATIVE
ROSICKY AND NASRI WILL SHOW THERE VISION AND FEELING FOR THE PLAY SKILLS ON THE WINGS… WALCOTT WILL BE COMING IN AS A JOKER… RAMSEY OR DENILSON WILL PLAY ON THE WING ASWELL, BARAZITE OR LANSBURY COULD MAKE IT AS SUBS… BUT MY BETT IS ON CARLOS VELA ON THE LEFT WING TO COVER IF ROSICKY GETS INJURED OR GETS A RED CARD.
AFELLAY COULD BE AN OPTION… BUT IF AFELLAY COMES THEN MORE PLAYERS SHOULD BE LOANED OUT. BECAUSE THEY WON’T BE HAPPY WITH A FEW MINUTES IN A SEASON.
ARSHAVIN WILL BE OUR BIG NUMBER 10. HE WILL PROUE EVEN MORE HOW MUCH OF A GENIUS HE IS. HE WILL SCORE A LOT. ROBIN WILL SCORE EVEN MORE. ABOUT 30 GOALS BECAUSE HE WILL BE ALONE UPFRONT AND WILL HAVE MORE ROOM. LAST SEASON HE WAS MORE OR LESS RUNING AROUND ADEBAYOR AND GIVEN PASSES TO HIM, BUT HE STILL MEANEGED 22 GOALS.
rockenrolljesus haangeland is now cup tied for CL so y wud we pay the 12m plus to buy him???
we will see today how valid our managers opinion of this squad are against a good madrid side….and no1 tell me its just pre-season, theres places up for grabs so we shud be competitive..
ps goodluck thomas rosicky welcome back and come thru this injury free please
Senderos signed for everton apparently. I knew he was going to leave, that’s why i want us to sign another CD.
Good result for the arsenal at the emerates cup. Did anyone watch the game. Please update me as i cant afford to purchase Sky. Credit crunch you know.
The game was a bore tbh, it got interesting late on when some of the regulars came on. The only positives were Wilshere, Rosicky, Arshavin, Cesc and Eduardo, classy players. Our defense was shocking again, they have to get their act together now the season is about to begin.
Gibbs, was there any necessitity for a defensive mid field player as have been requested by many fans and what did you think of Wengers interview, if you saw it.
Ive just heard on Sky Sports news that Vermaelen has picked up a slight muscle problem, Wenger has confirmed it also. The quote was…he needs to be protected a bit so must not be risked. Can anyone elaborate.
The game wasnt super interesting, the last 5 mins were though. Good pass by fabregas for the 1st, bad defending for their goal and just great vision, speed and finish from Arshavin for the winner. He is just world class. Wilshere was also super when he came on at half time. He will be the playmaker in the CC this season and he may well play in the FA, UCL and EPL. He is golden!
More news on Vermaelen via 5live radio, he might need scan. Anyone with inside contact on what exactly is happening. Is it also true as reported by Gibbs that Senderos has gone to Everton. What was the deal. Jay-jay if Wilshere is going to be the playmaker what will Fabregas be doing?
afternoon all from the sunny emarald isle
nothin in tabloids bout senderos move but it is rumoured lescott has handed in a transfer request and that could offset the move
kolo has been in the paper sayin arsenal have sold all their big names without replacing any1 and hav no leaders or winners and dats y he left….to hear that from him has only increased my worries
game yesterday was pedestrian and nice to see manu eboue hasnt changed does the hard bit then cant pass 2 yards, gets in great positions and fails to deliver, wot was the big farewell about in austria
havent been able to get kenya gunners post out of my head all week and now it seems a part may be actually true as velas been linked with a loan move to fulham but alas utd are said to be approaching valencia wit a ‘name ur price’ offer for david villa so dat will be dat then
for any1 who didnt read kenyagunners post on wed 29 he claimed hed read a post on another blog from an arsenal fan of 30 years who claims to have an inside track on developments in the club, this person claims he cannot reveal his source as his bosses would hav his head and dat theyd known bout verm, hleb, henry etc long before the media or official club revelation
this person stated dat hed become very aware of the overwhelming frustration of the fans on various sites and felt compelled to share his ‘knowledge’ that wed signed villa and de rossi for two cash fees, enabling a secrecy clause to come into effect, and dat these signings would be revealed 2nd aug, today (doubtful).
he also stated dat senderos wud be leaving wit eboue goin to fiorentina, vela loan to fulham and traore loan to birm or ports
now senderos, eboue and vela angles all seem very accurate judging by media reports…including linked clubs..reports today claim de rossi wil not be leaving rome, but i think enough of this ‘phantom’ fan’s prediction has come to light so far so who knows
villa and de rossi…….please god
Highlights
@ icehammer – Fabregas will not play in the CC . I am saying he will be playmaker and main man in the CC and may get more appearances in the league, FA and UCL due to his CC performances. He can play wing with Fab or a direct substitution.
Man that might be a very good investment http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FX7nB4YkR0c
@SF We need him b4 he becomes others target
@ MYWAY – We have plenty of young, attacking players. I don’t think Affelay is needed.
we have wilshere the next berkamp hahahaha who needs man citeh millions can’t wait for the cc this year with vela, lansbury and merida as the next cesc we can’t be impatient but I think we will win a trophy this year.
So much blog about transfer targets. Really fed up! Senderos to Everton is not a good thing. If true, we REALLY MUST SPEND. Don’t want Kalou – much prefer Chamakh, but desperate for a CB. Pat back – yes please, he would be brill for the kids and he could heavily kick Rooney, Torres and all of the yids! Let’s hope today is a good transfer day, and please Arsene, no more through the OUT door.
I dont understand this talk about viera at all.
Can we start the VILLA campaign?
“well, we all know theirs huge benefits to register a company in Cyprus, lol. My account pointed me to a few blogs on the net which i’m rather reluctant to check out as i’ve been so busy lately”
