While Arsenal are expected to still bolster their squad before the close of the transfer window, Arsene Wenger has revealed that he would reduce the headcount of his current crop of players, and Brazil born star Gabriel Paulista was the first to be ousted from the Gunner squad.
The clear-out from the Gunners squad has taken its toll on the defence with reports indicating that Championship side Birmingham City have signed Arsenal duo Carl Jenkinson and Cohen Bramall on a season-long loan deal.
Carl Jenkinson failed to make Arsenal squad that travelled to the far East for their pre-season tour and despite being short of options for the right back position, Arsene Wenger is not impressed with the defender. Jenkinson, who spent the penultimate season at West Ham, managed just one appearance in the Premier League last term and his best bet at playing regularly is away from Arsenal.
Meanwhile, Cohen Bramall is a new entrant at Arsenal but he has been a regular figure for the reserves and he featured prominently in their pre-season tour. While he cannot usurp the likes of Sead Kolasinac and Nacho Monreal to a place in the first team of Arsenal, he’s certain to feature regularly for the Blues as Harry Redknapp aims for promotion this season.
Both players are in line to play for Birmingham in their EFL Cup game against Bournemouth at St Andrew’s on Tuesday. Jenkinson was linked with a move to Crystal Palace amid interest from other league side but he’s favoured a move to Birmingham – he currently has three years left on his current contract but he may not return the Gunners fold.
We wish the lads goodluck.
