Three players who can improve Arsenal’s Title chances in January

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger will be delighted with the start his side have made this season in the Premier League and the Champions League, and fans will be licking their lips at the thought of winning the League this season.

The odds of Arsenal winning the League title are quite enticing, and such bets on Ladbrokes are good for £50.

The Gunners are right in the hunt for the title approaching the halfway point in the campaign where Chelsea, Liverpool, Manchester City and Tottenham are amongst a pack of teams who will also feel they are in a good position before the busy Christmas schedule.

Arsenal are also through to the last 16 of the Champions League where they topped their qualifying campaign ahead of French champions PSG. They therefore have the knockout stages of Europe’s premier competition to look forward to next year.

The biggest criticism from Arsenal fans during the summer was that the club had not invested enough into the squad to be able to compete in more than one competition. Given the Gunners in the hunt domestically and in Europe, that approach may change once the window opens in January.

Arsenal fans will demand that the money they spend on tickets at the Emirates Stadium will be invested in the team. A recent study conducted by Voucherbox showed that Arsenal and Chelsea fans pay more to watch their side than any other supporters in the Premier League.

With that in mind, here are three players the Arsenal could sign in January to improve their squad:

Dimitri Payet – West Ham

Frenchman Dimitri Payet was one of the players of the season in the 2015/16. He not only helped West Ham to a top-half finish in the Premier League but he also stood out for his country at Euro 2016 where the hosts reached final of the tournament which was won by Portugal.

Payet and West Ham have not quite reached the heights of last season, so he could be looking for a move away from the east London club in January. Arsenal should mind not to beat off the competition for the player, as his acquisition could prove the difference in the hunt for the title.

Mauro Icardi – Inter Milan

The one area of the pitch where Arsenal have been short in recent campaigns is up front. If Alexis Sanchez or Olivier Giroud get injured this season, Arsenal have very little cover.

Inter Milan’s Mauro Icardi has been in terrific form in Serie A, and has been linked with a number of major clubs in Europe. At the age of just 23, he could prove a fantastic bit of business for the Gunners.

Julian Draxler – Wolfsburg

Julian Draxler gets linked with Arsenal ahead of every transfer window. The German attacking midfielder signed for Wolfsburg in August 2015. The 2014 World Cup winner has made an average start to his career with The Wolves, however, he has not shown anywhere near the form he did at Schalke yet.

If an offer was on the table for the 23-year-old, Wolfsburg may be content with getting their money back that they spent on the player two seasons back. Therefore, Arsenal could try their luck in January and speak to the German club about a transfer.
