Arsenal will step up the pursuit of Monaco midfielder, Thomas Lemar as talks remain ongoing with both clubs over the transfer of the France international. The Gunners have had two bids rejected for the player, but Arsenal remain confident of signing the left-footed genius.

The attacking midfielder has reportedly agreed personal terms with the Emirates Stadium outfit but Monaco are holding out for around £50m, which the Mirror now reports that the Arsenal manager, Arsene Wenger is willing to match, so as to beat off competition from the likes of Barcelona, Manchester City and Liverpool.

The Mirror also suggests that The Gunners must act quickly if they want to get the deal over the line. Arsenal have been keen on the youngster, as he looks like a decent replacement for wantaway striker, Alexis Sanchez. Wenger has reiterated his stance that the 28-year-old Chilean is not for sale at any price, but the Gunners hierarchy are looking to sign Lemar to potentially play alongside him or replace him if he eventually decides to leave the club.

However, Monaco have stated that he is not for sale, given that they have sold the likes of Mendy, Bakayoko and Bernado Silva already this summer, as they impressed last term, winning the Ligue 1 and also reached the Champions League semi-finals. Barcelona have just sold Neymar to PSG, and are looking for a replacement for the Brazil international, and feel that Lemar fits the bill given his impressive performances last season, especially in Europe, as per same report.

Liverpool are looking at him to potentially replace Philippe Coutinho who is wanted by Barcelona, while Manchester City are keen to add even more attacking firepower to what is already a formidable attack. Lemar will add creativity guile and directness to the attack as he is very good at dribbling, creativity and passing. In 34 Ligue 1 matches for the principality club last season, he scored 9 goals and created a further 10.
