Much ado about in-form former Arsenal attacker, Serge Gnabry

Serge Gnabry was hailed as the next big thing from Arsenal reserves at a time after making a £100,000 move from Stuttgart in 2011 winter. Although it took the attacking midfielder time to adapt to his new environment, culture and weather, his talent was never in doubt as he dazzled and wooed fans with his skills, turning the Sportsbetting Odds in his favour, making him one for the future in the English Premier League.

All through the German’s stay at the club, one thing that eluded him was a starting line-up as the likes of Oxlade Alex Chamberlain, Theo Walcott, Gervinho and even young Alex Iwobi who just got his breakthrough last season were all preferred ahead of the German at the time. In total the midfielder scored a solitary goal in 10 league games which is a poor record for a player of his quality.

Though Gnabry has been inconsistent during his five year stay in North London, his sale for £5 million to Werder Bremen in the summer was highly criticised by fans and pundits who felt it was a bad business on the part of the Gunners even though he had 12 months to run in his contract with the club having refused to renew as he wasn’t assured of a starting spot in the team.

“We didn’t want to get rid of Gnabry, we wanted to keep him. But he was in the last year of his contract. We were close to extending his contract but finally he changed his mind and went to Bremen,” Arsenal coach Arsene Wenger said last week after seeing his former player bag a hat-trick in his debut for Germany against San Marino last weekend in the World Cup Qualifier .

Since leaving Arsenal, the midfielder has scored four goals  in nine games with Bremen this season after scoring six goals (joint top scorer with team mate Nils Petersen) in the 2016 Rio Olympics as Germany finished runners-up behind hosts Brazil.

Though he is in his best form, Arsenal seem not to have missed the German considering the new found form of the likes of a Theo Walcott, Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil which has seen Arsenal climb to fourth in the table two points behind leaders Liverpool and having not lost a game in all competitions since the opening game loss to Liverpool. Presently though he might have left Arsenal on a cheap it could be said to be a win/win for the three parties (Arsenal, Gnabry and Bremen) as both parties continue to thrive and get better.
