Kolasinac not yet a Gunner, transfer to be decided next week

Wherever the news initially originated from, it has turned to be totally untrue. Arsenal were reported to have signed Sead Kolasinac from Schalke last week, but the defender’s father has claimed that his son is yet to agree deal with any club and would make his decision next week.

The left-back was reported by a Bosnian news outlet to have signed a pre-contract with Arsenal ahead of a summer move to the Emirates, however, there are doubts over the deal as his father, though confirmed Arsenal contact, said his son is not yet an Arsenal player.

“It is true that there has been contact with Arsenal, be he is not yet an Arsenal player. This week I will meet with Sead and his agent. Next week we will decide everything”, Faik Kolasinac told Bosnian TV station N1 Sarajevo.

The 23-year-old Bosnian international contract with Schalke expires in the summer and will be available for free but Arsenal will now have to fend off competition from Italian club AC Milan to secure his signature.

There are plans to overhaul the squad in the summer and Arsenal have identified Kolasinac as a replacement for Nacho Monreal and Kieran Gibbs.

Kolasinac’s versatility has made him one of the most sought after defenders in Europe with Liverpool and Chelsea also reported to be interested him. He can play as a centre-defender or as a defensive midfielder.

The news of Kolasinac’s signing had come as a relief to Arsenal fans who have endured a disappointing season but his destination remains uncertain, though as reported by the Mirror, the Italian media claimed the defender would fancy moving to the Emirates Stadium.

He has featured 31 times for Schalke this season, scoring three goals and setting up five.
