“I’m enjoying myself more here than I was in Manchester.”

Henrikh Mkhitaryan has thrown a subtle dig at Manchester United by claiming that he is enjoying his football better than when he was with The Red Devils.

The attacking midfielder joined us in January in a deal that saw Alexis Sanchez move to Old Trafford; he played particularly well in the Europa League as Arsenal reached the semi-finals.

The Armenian, who has scored 25 international goals in his career including ones against Italy and Germany, can play anywhere across the front-line. He is known for his close dribbling skills, creativity and awareness; but is not quite so comfortable with the defensive aspect of his game.

It is not entirely surprising, therefore, that his relationship with Jose Mourinho had reached an all-time low, and he opted to move to London as his unhappiness was starting to affect his football. Mkhitaryan is expected to be a vital first team player for Unai Emery this campaign as the Spanish manager is hoping to lead the team to a new era.

Speaking to reporters in Singapore, where Arsenal are playing in the preseason International Champions Cup tournament, Mkhitaryan said, “Arsenal have always played offensive football,” “Under Jose, the [United] team was playing a bit differently.

But I’m not blaming anyone, I’m not criticizing anyone, it’s just a different philosophy. “I can just say I’m enjoying myself more here than I was in Manchester.”

The presence of familiar faces and friends such as Sokratis Papastathopoulos and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang have helped him become happier at the club, though his preference of Arsenal is as a result of the attacking philosophy enshrined at the Emirates Stadium.
