Eduardo doesn’t remember much, thank goodness

Just a quick update on the Eduardo da Silva injury situation. According to all reports the surgery that was completed on his leg was a success and he should be able to play football again, although he will definitely miss the rest of the season and the Euro 2008 tournament.

Eduardo also revealed that he does not remember much of the the incident and was quick to thank his family and friends as well as everyone linked in with the Arsenal Football Club for their support during the last couple of days. The Arsenal striker’s comments were published on the club’s official website but I thought I’d include them in full here as well:

Eduardo’s surgery was a success“I don’t remember the incident very well and it is not something that I want to see again on television or in the newspapers. All I remember is that when I fell, I looked down at my foot and it had turned the other way. The rest is just a blank. It was an unfortunate situation but these things can happen in football.

“I am unsure at the moment of the extent of the injury and how long I will be out of action for but I know that I won’t be able to play for Arsenal for the rest of the season or be ready in time for the Euros this summer.
But I’m not worried about that. My concentration and determination is on making as quick a recovery as possible. I am determined to overcome this injury.

“I would like to thank the medical team here at Arsenal for their efforts as well as the staff at Selly Oak Hospital who carried out the operation on Saturday night. Everyone there made me feel as comfortable as possible.
I would also like to say how touched I am by the many messages of support I have received and to be surrounded by my loved ones at this time.”

All I can say is that I wish Eduardo all the best in his rehabilitation. He seems like an absolute gentleman and his comments about not worrying about Euro 208 and only concentrating on making as strong a recovery speak volumes about his mature perspective on the whole situation.

As I said earlier I haven’t really got my head around the whole incident but I will be posting a detailed article on my thoughts of the Eduardo injury and what it means for the game later today. In the meantime I think it would be nice to hear the readers of the blog to wish Eduardo all the best in his recovery, so if you get the time I’d certainly encourage you leave some positive comments today. Cheers in advance.

  8. The accident was terrible, and when these things happen, it doesn’t matter who you support. Good Luck to Eduardo – he will return stronger than ever.

  9. Wishing you the best through your recovery. It shows great character of a person to be so positive after going through such a hard time. Now is the time for all Gunners to stand together for Dudu and show their determination. We have been tested many times this season and this is just another test that we’ll get through. Get well soon Dudu. Our thoughts and prayers are with you.

  11. Lets win the Premier League for Eduardo. Lets lift a trophy in his name! In his first season as a Gunner let him know how much we love him and even though is badly injured, we are all still thinking of him and will not stop until he puts on that red jersey and slots another ball in another net. The Premier League trophy is coming to the Emirates and its all with the spirit of Eduardo. I hope you have a speedy recovery Eduardo, We will all miss you!

  12. edu, pls get well soon and play again with arsenal team mates soon. pls do not leave and work hard with arsenal, u will be success in this team

  13. get well soon edu, gooners will miss u,come on lads show us wot u r made of by winning the preimership and champion league.

  14. Dudu’s comments show how gr8 a person he is. Hope he recovers well and fast to grace the GROVE again. As for the tackle, many so-called analyst are coming in the defence of Martin Taylor that the tackle was not malicious. I know no football player would like to end a player’s career. But if you’re a defender and you can’t tackle properly what you’r doing on the pitch. Why it’s like if I can’t kick the ball I’ll kick the player.

  15. If this kind of foul was committed on Wayne Rooney the English Press would be in an uproar (You would all call for the banning of non English players). This kind of injury was a long time coming. Remember Abou Diaby about two years ago, this is the second time in two years an Arsenal player have suffered such injury. Arsene is correct when he said that there is a notion out there that to defeat Arsenal is to kick Arsenal. The Manager of Birmingham state before the game that they would have to put steel to Arsenal and this is exactly what Matt Taylor did to Da Silva. I don’t think he intended to hurt the lad but when managers request of there player to be physical with another team, what do you expect to happen?
Sorry to say but your brand of Football is now close to Rugby. This is exactly why Jose Reyes left the Premiership because of the brutality.
As much as I love Arsenal I think I will now turn my attention to the Spanish league where they play real football not American Football.

This commentary is a joke, I hate to say this but the only why this will change in the Premiership is if Wayne Rooney or some other English boy is injury in such a manner.

You should have shown the entire injury from the moment Taylor leaped at Da Silva and tell me if he did not intend to put Steel to the Lad like his Manager requested.

  16. Forgive my ranting above please, I’m just so pissed after reading the Daily Telegraph. The British press is a Joke.

  20. I guess the morphine given helps ease the pain.

And it’s not surprise someone with such a brutal attack from an opposition pass out a little bit.

You’re right otariq. If this happen to Man Utd players, it would be different.

It’s pity Eduardo is a new guy in England. Credit to to him for proven his worth in such a short time.

I hate the double standard in this country.
