4-4-2: How Arsenal could line-up with Aubameyang and Mkhitaryan in attack

Arsenal have been linked with a sensational move for Pierre Emerick Aubameyang and Henrikh Mkhitaryan in the January transfer window. Arsenal are hoping to sign Aubameyang as a replacement for the Manchester United-bound Alexis Sanchez but they could get Mkhitaryan if the reports are valid.

The duo, having played their best football at Dortmund, have the Arsenal fans licking their lips in anticipation for the quality they bring to the team.

We take a look at how the Gunners can line-up with Gabonese striker, Pierre Emerick Aubameyang and Henrik Mkhitaryan in a 4-4-2 formation.

Goalkeeper

Veteran goalkeeper, Petr Cech is arguably one of the best in the League and would be expected to remain in goal barring any injury worries.

Although, the Czech international has not really covered himself in glory so far this term having conceded 30 goals in 23 Premier League games of which is the most by any goalkeeper in the top six.

Defence

The Gunners have not had luck with injuries so far this term and has forced Arsene Wenger to chop and change his back three more often than any other side in the top six.

The north London club have the worst defensive record among the top six club having conceded 30 goals in 23 Premier League games.

A centre back pairing of Shkodran Mustafi and Laurent Koscienly is expected while the duo of Hector Bellerin and Sead Kolasinac is expected to play on the right and left side of the defence.

Midfield

A midfield quartet is expected with the duo of Jack Wilshere and Granit Xhaka expected to marshall the midfield. The Switzerland international is expected to provide cover for the defence while Jack Wilshere is expected to support the attack and dictate the tempo of the game.

Meanwhile, on the right and left hand side of the midfield, both Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Mesut Ozil are expected to play as inverted wingers offering more support to the strikers by feeding them with killer through balls from the right and left side of the midfield respectively not neglecting their defensive duties.

Attack

The duo of Aubameyang and Alexandre Lacazette are expected to lead the line and form a deadly partnership up-front.

Aubameyang’s track record of scoring regularly will ease the burden on record signing Alexandre Lacazette who has failed to score since the 3-1 loss at home to Manchester United.

Probable XI (4-4-2): Cech, Bellerin, Koscienly, Mustafi, Kolasinac, Xhaka, Wilshere, Mkhitaryan Mesut Ozil, Aubameyang, Lacazette.
